“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.”— Matthew 20:26 (NIV)
Devotional:
In a world that often equates greatness with status, visibility, and control, Jesus redefines leadership completely. He teaches that true greatness is found in service. Not in being served—but in serving others with humility and purpose.
Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking about yourself less. It is the ability to value others, listen well, and act without needing recognition. Servant leadership flows from this posture. It leads from strength, but not ego. From confidence, but not pride.
A growth mindset helps us understand that humility is developed, not assumed. It is shaped in everyday moments—how we respond to correction, how we treat people when no one is watching, and how we handle responsibility without needing applause.
Jesus modeled this perfectly. He led by washing feet, healing the overlooked, and giving attention to those society ignored. His leadership was powerful because it was rooted in love, not self-interest.
Servant leadership doesn’t mean you lack influence—it means you use influence differently. It asks, “How can I lift others?” instead of “How can I be seen?” Over time, this mindset builds trust, respect, and lasting impact.
Humility also protects your heart. It frees you from comparison and the pressure to prove yourself. When your identity is secure in God, you don’t need to compete—you can contribute.
Great leadership begins with a humble heart willing to serve.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me humility and help me lead with a servant’s heart. Remove pride and replace it with love, patience, and wisdom. Help me serve others faithfully, even when it goes unnoticed. Shape my character to reflect Jesus in all I do. In His name, Amen.
