Loving God With Your Whole Heart

Verse (KJV):

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

— Matthew 22:37–39

Devotional:

Loving God with your whole heart is not about emotional intensity—it’s about alignment. Jesus did not ask for part of our affection, our convenience, or our leftover time. He asked for everything: heart, soul, and mind. That kind of love is intentional, disciplined, and sometimes uncomfortable.

Many believers love God sincerely but selectively. We love Him in worship, but hesitate in obedience. We trust Him in prayer, but cling tightly to control. Wholehearted love means inviting God into every decision, not just the spiritual ones. It means letting Him shape how we think, how we speak, how we respond, and how we treat others—especially when it costs us something.

Jesus connects loving God with loving people for a reason. You cannot claim wholehearted devotion to God while withholding grace, patience, or compassion from others. Love for God shows up in how you handle conflict, how you forgive, how you serve, and how you remain faithful when no one is watching.

This kind of love is not perfected overnight. It grows through daily surrender. Through choosing God when it’s inconvenient. Through repentance when your heart drifts. Through obedience even when feelings lag behind.

Loving God with your whole heart means He is not just part of your life—He is the center. Not a habit, not a routine, but the foundation that everything else is built upon. When God has your whole heart, your life begins to reflect His love in ways words never could.

Prayer:

Lord, I want to love You with my whole heart—not just with words, but with my life. Search my heart and show me where I’ve held back. Teach me to love You with my choices, my thoughts, and my actions. Align my heart with Yours, and let my love for You be evident in how I love others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
