One Body, Many Gifts: Serving Together

Devotional

A mission team is made up of different people with different personalities, experiences, abilities, and gifts. Some may lead, some may teach, some may translate, some may organize, some may pray, and others may quietly work behind the scenes. But in the Kingdom of God, every role matters.

Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12 that the body of Christ has many members, but they are all part of one body. A hand cannot say it does not need the foot, and one part should never consider itself more important than another. In the same way, our mission team cannot function effectively if we compare our roles or measure the importance of our service.

Romans 12:4–8 teaches that we have different gifts according to the grace God has given us. Your gift may look different from someone else's, but that does not make it less valuable. The person preparing supplies is serving just as much as the person speaking to a crowd. The person praying quietly may be contributing just as significantly as the person leading a Bible study.

Ecclesiastes 4:9 reminds us, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” There is strength when we work together.

As we serve in Mexico, let us resist comparison and competition. Instead, celebrate one another's gifts, step in when someone needs help, and remember that we are working toward one purpose: making Christ known and serving His Kingdom.

Mission Connection

Do not worry about whether your role looks important. Your obedience is what matters. Whether you are praying, cleaning, translating, organizing, teaching, giving, encouraging, or serving behind the scenes, you are part of the mission.

Reflection

Ask yourself: What gift has God given me that I can use during this mission? Am I comparing my role with someone else's, or am I faithfully serving where God has placed me?

Prayer

Father, thank You for giving each of us different gifts and abilities. Help us understand that every role matters in Your Kingdom. Remove comparison, competition, pride, and insecurity from our hearts. Teach us to appreciate one another, support one another, and serve together with humility. Help each member of our team use their gifts faithfully as we serve in Mexico. When we become tired or discouraged, remind us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Unite us with one heart and one purpose—to glorify You and make Christ known. In Jesus' name, Amen.
