Verse:
“Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs.”— Psalm 100:2 (NIV)
Devotional:
Serving others is central to the Christian life, yet it’s easy for service to become exhausting when it’s driven by obligation, people-pleasing, or guilt. Joy doesn’t automatically accompany service—it grows when our perspective shifts.
A growth mindset recognizes that joy in serving is developed, not demanded. When we serve only to be noticed, needed, or approved, resentment quietly takes root. But when we serve as an act of worship, our posture changes. Service becomes less about what we give and more about who we become.
Jesus served with intention. He washed feet, healed the overlooked, and gave His time freely—never rushed, never resentful. His joy didn’t come from applause; it came from alignment with the Father’s will. That same alignment is available to us.
Serving with joy requires honest self-checks. Are you serving from overflow or burnout? From love or pressure? Growth happens when we learn to serve with healthy boundaries, humility, and a willing heart. Joy doesn’t mean service is easy—it means it’s rooted in purpose rather than performance.
When service is done with joy, it refreshes both the giver and the receiver. It builds compassion, patience, and gratitude. Over time, joyful service shapes our character, teaching us to value people over recognition and faithfulness over results.
If your joy feels depleted, don’t quit serving—realign your why. Ask God to renew your heart, clarify your motives, and restore joy where duty has taken over. Growth often begins when service shifts from something you have to do into something you get to do.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the opportunity to serve others. Help me serve with joy, not obligation. Purify my motives, renew my strength, and align my heart with Yours. Teach me to grow in humility and love as I serve faithfully. Let my service reflect Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
