Verse: "Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.”— Proverbs 31:3 (KJV)
Obedience is easy when the outcome is comfortable. The real test comes when doing what’s right requires restraint, discipline, and saying no to what feels good in the moment. Proverbs 31:3 is a warning wrapped in wisdom: don’t give your strength, influence, or devotion to anything that will quietly destroy what God is building in you.
This verse isn’t just about relationships—it’s about misplaced loyalty. We lose strength when we compromise our values for approval, pleasure, or escape. Obedience calls us to guard what God has entrusted to us: our character, calling, and future.
Doing what’s right when it’s hard often looks unspectacular. It’s choosing integrity when no one is watching. It’s walking away from situations that weaken your spirit, even when they promise comfort or validation. It’s staying faithful to God’s instructions when disobedience feels easier and faster.
The world teaches us to follow our emotions. God teaches us to follow wisdom. Obedience requires an attitude that values long-term purpose over short-term relief. It asks us to recognize that not everything we can do is something we should do.
Proverbs 31 begins with instruction meant to protect strength and leadership. The message is clear: what you surrender your strength will shape your future. Obedience is not about restriction—it’s about preservation. God’s commands are not meant to limit us, but to keep us from destroying what He intends to bless.
Choosing obedience when it’s hard is an act of trust. It declares that God’s way is better, even when it costs us something now.
Prayer
Lord, You know how easy it is for me to choose comfort over obedience. Help me to guard my strength and make decisions that honor You, even when they are difficult. Give me wisdom to recognize what weakens my spirit and courage to walk away from it. Shape my attitude so that I desire what is right more than what is easy. Teach me to trust that Your ways protect what You are building in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Amen!
